I'm back with a happy announcement! I am now working at a SaaS company specializing in event planning and conventions. It comes during a tough time in the gaming industry. It seems that every other week a major developer is shuttering its studio and long-standing and beloved IPs are getting cancelled and shelved. Or worse; releasing only to bomb spectacularly. 💀
It's a sad thing to realise, as a gamer, that your lifeblood has an underlying rot. Which has unfortunately led me to exit the gaming industry as a software tester for the foreseeable future. The positions, no matter how senior or stable they appear, could evaporate at any moment. A person can't live a live comfortably in a job market so volatile.
On a positive note, this new position has already given me some new tools and learning opportunities. I’ve been introduced to Docker and container-based development. Also, because the software is a web application, I’ve quickly gotten the hang of testing using GitHub Desktop, managing releases, and version control. All of which are giving me a couple more key words to add to my resume, haha. ✍️
Though game development is an a dark place right now, I know well live to see the other side. Who knows? Gaming and game testing might look completely different 5 years from now. I know I will too.
